Linisher / Belt sander???

hi all

looking to get a cheapish belt sander / linisher, anyone have any comments on these models??

Seems to be a fairly common belt size.
Worth getting or not?
Any other recommendations?

Same thing but under a different brand are sold by the likes of Aldi, from time to time if you are in no hurry, at a fraction of the Clarke price and with 3yrs warranty

it will get u away as long as u arent doing anything serious with it (light duty only )

An alternative is the belt sander which Lidl currently have on offer - it comes with bench clamps that let you mount is upside down on a bench or vertically. I've bought one but not used it yet so can't comment on how good it is but worth a go for £25.

A mate of mine bought one to do the final fitting of stainless tube/bends for an exhaust despite me telling him to avoid that style. I think his has axminster written on it instead of clarke but the rubber band that drives the belt sander snapped* the first time he switched it on, the compound fence for the table is useless unless you're sanding little sticks of wood and the table itself is about as rigid as a chocolate bar on a hot day. Having said that the disc portion made his life a lot easier for 'squaring' cuts and he did a much better job with the tube fitting than he would have done without it

* actually it might have just kept jumping off. Can't remember and it doesn't matter as the outcome was the same- the sanding belt portion didn't work

In the end I thought i'd try one the cheapo units, amazing piece of crap! Straight out of the box it would have been useless, all the screws and bolts were loose, the tensioner didn't work and the two belt rollers weren't even parallel or square to each other.

A couple of hours with the tools and I have a working unit at least, a bit more and I will have a usable work table. It's not good I guess but better than nothing and can be made better quite easily.
