M16 x 1.5 to 1/2 pt adaptor

Have a small 50 litre direct drive compressor which I want to fit new air filters to. I have ordered the filters bellow, listed as having a 1/2 pt male thead, didn't really give adaptors to fit to my compressor much thought, after searching online I can't find a way to connect them. The thread in the compressor head is m16 1.5 ( I have a connector with this thread to know), a 3/8 thread does not fit

Something that did cross my mind. Can this be done with a small blow torch and solider? Dads a plumber and this is the best equipment I can get hold of

u can soft solder it together, it will be well strong enough

Have got a lathe??????, I`d be turning one up. 1/2" female BSPT X M16-1.5 male tail. Female to fit onto the filter, and male to fit into the compressor. You`ll find plenty BSPT female adapters to fit onto the filter, you may be able to adapt the tail to run a die up and give M16 male on the other end. Possibly even a bit pipe threaded onto the tail and a male M16 put on the pipe.
I`d need to go out and check a pile of fittings taps and dies.

plenty brass adapters, solder an M16 bolt on the tail.

M16x1.5 is a standard "electrical" thread.
Now whilst 1/2" NPT might not seem at first thought related to "electrical" stuff, it is.
Adaptaflex make M16x1.5 male to !/2" NPT female and the converse if required.
You should be able to get these at a reputable local electrical wholesaler.
Also as this is on the suction side of the compressor is not subjected to any noteable pressure forces.

Yes garath same one as you. As well as the filters am adding an electronic auto drain on the tank, I took out the manual drain plug today that's 3/8 bsp and it does fit into the head. I have m16 1.5 connector as I did have air filters positioned away from compressor on a hose. Another member on here mentioned this in this thread.

Maybe threads are different on heads over years, batches?

Gareth could you check yours with a thread gauge if you have one? Mine is defiantly 1.5 pitch

very easy to get confused with similar thread forms.
M16 X1.5 is a 60 degree form
3/8 BSP is 16.8OD X 19TPI 55degree form

you will find that the two threads together look almost identical. And a 1.5 gauge will almost fit the 19TPI ---- Gareth0123 has it well sussed.

I had something similar with my old compressor. Went to an industrial pipework fittings supplier and they sorted me out an adapter using "off the shelf" components.

I have a 3/8 fitting but it does not fit. I am going to buy the connectors in the eBay link and if need be cut and solider my other adaptors to them

Definitely 3/8 BSP on the air inlet ports on the heads of; my Rhyas Vee twin 50, my (now ceased to function) Sealey Vee twin 50, and a mates 2hp single SIP 25.

I've seen enough BSP, JIC and metric hydraulic and pipe fittings over the years to tell what they are at glance.

My 3/8 to 1/2 adaptors turned up today so I set about making the adaptor I need, this the differance between the 3/8 and the m16 1.5



Then cut them in half and had my dad solf solder them together, bit bumpy but they have strong joint. I did put some sif brazing wire in the portamig and try this on some spare brass, ended up into a sooty mess



this has allowed me to fit larger, better quality air filters to my compressor
