So. Thought I'd have a go at motorising my bead rollers as they are a nightmare to use!
Quick and messy job as along as it functions don't really care on appearance
Bought a new wiper motor, had a rake in the never never bin and found and old diff which I split down.
Quickly cut out a funky shaped bracket
Bolted the motor on
Welded a nut, a peice of the pinion shaft and the little gear together. Screwed onto wiper motor and give it a tack so it doesn't come off in reverse
The motor wanted to sit a little away from the roller frame so in liu of some small box or thick plate a couple of bolts made do.
Should also stiffen the 3mm plate a bit
Welded it all in place and I Welded the bigger diff cog where the handle was....
Now I got excited, hooked up a 500w 12v power supply and noted that even with no metal in, it seemed to struggle....
Sat around untouched for years the rollers where really stiff...
My grease gun wouldn't fit the nipples as they are small, and a mix of wd40 and spray grease seemed to ease them off a little, doing my best to spray it into the bearing from the sides....
One bearing had a snapped nipple so I could flood this one which seemed to help a little
I thought I'd just leave the motor to run a couple of minutes while wire wheeling the shafts and rollers and intermittently spraying lubes and grease etc the bearings.
Basically trying to free it all up the lazy way!!
However the motor suddenly started smoking followed shortly by the power supply going pop!!!
The power supply has been in the garage about 4 years and I couldn't see anything that was obviously blown to bits but a lot of the components are obviously rusty
I was almost going to order another wiper and power supply as the small motor and bevel cut gears made a nice neat small solution, but now I'm think it's going to be well underpowered when ideally I like to put a 0.8-0.9mm joggle in the same gauge sheet. Ideally in one shot...
Any one have any suggestions as to motor power? Threads, suggestions etc??
I no problem lopping the lot off and starting again, it was just a quick and dirty fix that didn't work
