thought i would share my experience after doing the BS4872 mma welding course:
it was a four day course at eagit training in norwich, £750
i have done this as i am a self employed steel erector and need a certificate to cover and prove compatency in site welding. i know that this an entry level certificate and is to be updated to EN287 cert's.
approx 1 day of the four was theory and the rest practical.
having tried fillets etc i moved on to a vertical t fillet and once acceptable concentrated on a single v butt in 12mm plate.
once the v butt passes the destructive testing and etching it will cover you for all other welding positions.
i done all rooting, fill and cap with filarc 56s with stringer beads run vertically-these rods are suberb and are an excellent rod for rooting.
here are a few pics of my work pieces:
vertical tee fillet, 10mm plate, filarc root run and bohler 6013 ohv cap
a little grinding of the stop starts and its good for testing
set up of the vertical v butt, 12mm plate, 3.2mmgap 2mm face
root ran in, this is the view of the back
root run from the front:
root run ground down smooth ready for the fill:
unfortunately i forgot to get pics of the fill and cap as we ran over on time, the piece was getting very hot and so was i! it didn't look pretty but it was acceptable to visual inspection.
the pieces were tested the next day as it was too late but i got to do a practice run the day before and took these home.
test pieces after a root bend and one with a face bend:
got the phone call to confirm my vert t fillet and single v butt have passed the destructive and etch testing and certificates are in the post
hope this is informative to somebody and if any body wants some nuclear reactor welding done then i have a certificate
cheers
