I wondered that and then I spied a wire on the front edge that I guess gets wrapped around the handle.

from what ive found out already whilst cleaning it up and oiling it all up
is if turned clockwise the cogs stay meshed up to other cog in reverse anti clockwise the cog jumps up off the cogs
clockwise to me is turned towards the user if anyones not sure
there is a metal wire on the box i presume like others this is to hold the gears in mesh with one another id probably use something like a extendable plastic clips or extendable threaded hooks to hold in position
anyone wants these pics can have these in there original taken photo format as i will upload them into a folder as you can see them more clearly for your build of the gearbox

held on by the box section and bolted to the lathe frame via Myford ML7 Spare Gear Quadrant
you can still use the myford 7 tumble reverse gearing theres another cog underneath this going into the homemade gearbox top bar
this inturn goes to the big cog then to the smaller cog before going to the big cog on the arm
when engaged into gear on the bottom cog turns the lathes leadscrew bar
from photo theres an indentation and a locking bar to mesh up with the jointing collet spacer x2 one is via the power bar the other leads to the leadscrew something like a dog clutch

as i didnt design the box i wouldnt sell the plans for the gear box however it does look like a norton gearbox upside down
I also think we have enough cost in buying whats needed
the added advantage, everyone can have the gearbox for a fraction of the cost

1, 75 teeth
2, 20 teeth
3, 40 teeth
bar cog to gearbox on that top bar in picture outside of gearbox
25 teeth
tumbler front gear 18 teeth
between centers i read 110mm
the cog bar is funny i see springs inside but will further investigate this before posting up on the forums

heres all the info to do with this gearbox also the thread information on the framed picture
there is also ball bearings in the slotted part of the lever those shinny bits within the photo
as original 20 gear
removed bolts/screws moved onto 40 cog by pulling forward and sloting onto larger cog
returned to starter place bolts ready to reinsert again
last pic where it connects to the ml7 lathe top cog area and also the crossbar
gears info from picture
for some reason forum software is turning it sideways even if im turning it on pc

box bars + strength bars for gearbox
box disconnection holds bar off the threads when screw cutting not needed
oil drain hole at bottom
a front can be built so it locks into place instead of being tied with a piece of wire a pull bar with lug cold be used to lock it into place
this picture show how it connects to ml7 lathe
it also uses the tumble reverse that the ml7 have
thats it for this thread unless any questions need to be asked just post in the thread and i will try to answer them as best as i can do
