new ifl itec 170 mig mma tig welder

got my new welder on Friday ,great service from weldequip , its a ifl i tech 170 mig inverter , had a play the top weld is 2.5 rod on 70 amps the mig is the lower weld , still playing with settings as in the manual there are no guides for setting the volts and wire feed , also the unit has a burn back function and no explanation as how to set up , bought the tig torch to have a play complete novice on tig , will be e mailing ifl for some info on settings for mig and tig with this machine . seems a nice machine ,

The mig weld looks like it has a nice smooth wire feed. Needs a bit more heat into the weld though. Up the voltage a bit I reckon.

Most welder manuals are pretty sparse on settings, mostly H&S, spares etc., they all assume you can set up a welder which isn't much good to a novice.

20 odd years ago i was a a welder fabricator when your doing it all day its a lot easier , how time dulls the senses now its a learning curve ,

Looks a good machine, I may have been tempted if this was on the market when I bought my rtech welder!

From what I gather burn back is the length of time the wire stays live after you release the trigger, if you find the wire sticking in the weld puddle after you have finished welding, increase the burn back time to stop it. I've never really messed with that setting on mine, I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will be along to correct me!

Looks like a well built machine. Are IFL manufactured in the uk? On the look out for a mig inverter myself and its that or an r-tech.

Some of the kit is produced in the UK and some is badged stuff from China. I think all the tier one(most expensive) distinctive looking Tigs are all UK made and everything else is is bought in from China but maybe someone who knows more can shed light on that as I know it's definitely a mix but as to exactly which products I am not 100%

Burnback will adjust the length of wire that protrudes the contact tip after you have stopped welding. Ideally you want around 20mm sticking out ready for when you press the trigger again. 9/10 the factory preset should be fine.

As Robot says, most manufacturers hand books are there to fulfil Health and Safety issues and provide technical data. They are not meant to be "how to weld" guides. In a simerla vain, when you buy a car the handbook does not tell you how to drive.

For weldrr and tig add on . Still no reply ,, would have been nice to have a volts and wire feed chart as a guide , other welders supply one , oh well back to guessing the settings loln
