Had an R-Tech 161 ac/dc machine for some while now and found the wp26 torch that came attached somewhat cumbersome and awkward to use. Welding with it was somewhat troublesome and became an expert at welding tungsten to various bits of scrap steel. Took the plunge and bought a CK wp9. Bare torch with 4m lead was only £83 inc vat and carriage from Tec Products. (only use the tig for light stuff and the CK is rated up to 125 amps). Quite a revelation, the new torch is like using a fountain pen, very flexible and light hose/cable. As it uses a braided cable with internal hose had to do some mod's to the welder itself as the gas and current were separate outlets. Firstly bought an adaptor to combine the two and then had to remove the existing gas outlet that connected the original torch directly to the machine. Now fitted a 3/8" bsp bulkhead connector to enable the adaptor hose to fit. Also fitted a 3/8" union to the original torch so that can be used if need arises.
Previously made a cart to carry the machine and just made up a hand rest from some scrap and a magnet I had lying around.
Ok, now my welding has improved from Mr Blobby stage one, still yuk though, more practice needed. Latest creation is a small coolant tank to go on the bandsaw. Quick wizz with a flap disk and slap on some more of the ubiquitous green paint and it looks ok.
