Oil dispenser

Made an oil dispenser from 7kg compressor tank

Ingredients
1. One 2" bsp black nipple
2. One 2" bsp cap
3. One 3/4" bsp black nipple

5. 6" of 1" round bar

Removed valve and filled with water for a few days, drilled the hole for the 2" filler and the hose stay/drain. Cut the nipple as per pic below which will give me a spare for another one and cut the 3/4" nipple in half.



The pump draw pipe is exactly the right length and the OD is a snug fit in the 3/4" nipple, just needs a tiny smear of sealant or if you can be bothered groove the inside of it for an O ring



Trim back the handle surround to accomodate the 30x3mm flat bar that will support the pump, I have set it so the draw tube is app one inch off the bottom of the tank and the handle does not fowl.





The solid bar for the tube stay is bored to 16mm



I cut the tube that fits in the top of pump so I can use the angle piece on the end of the tube to poke into gear boxes and fit into the tube drain/air admittance/ tube rest stub.



Chain for the filler cap is crimped through a hole in the handle frame

Its truly amazing what you can make from those compressor tanks, Good job there are plenty of them around.

Going to make another four of them Gordon so there will be a few more compressor tanks needed, one for hydraulic32, gear oil,engine oil, atf and chain oil. My guys overfill the pourers, use a fraction of it and then leave them scattered about, next person that needs a pourer doesn`t know whats in there so tips it away and on....... Way too much waste so this will keep everything cleaner and in order, also take away the confusion. just need to label them up

nice simple solution, it now has me thinking about making one with the pump the other way up and using it to extract the used oil

bit late now but perhaps a label or marker pen note on the pourer to say what sort of lube it is being used for

still much more fun making something good to do the job

This is one I made a few years ago when I ran a Landrover. With 2 axles, 2 swivels and 3 gearboxes it paid for itself the first time I used it. It works on compressed air (about 5 psi) and with the gate valve at the nozzle I can control it from under the vehicle.

Leaving oil and grease containers uncovered is a big NO NO in my book, I would never use anything left like that, With high precision expensive machines you have no idea what has contaminated the containers, Oil and grease left uncovered should be renamed, grinding compound!!

I either covered mine with a towel or store them upside down.

Sounds like a plan, just need to find one that will fit into the end of a 16mm tube that is not too restrictive, if you turn the handle back half a turn it does the same thing but that would mean training my guys Also need to add a dipstick and weld a socket in the bottom to aid cleaning. Found another compressor tank so MK 2 is on its way, thanks for the input and comments chaps

Got a few minutes in on the mk2, included an extra boss in the base for a drain plug and an extra tapping for a dip stick. As we have gone a bit up market I have moved onto the home made wine in a glass for the size comparison, checked the volume and it holds exactly 15ltrs.





Any ideas on attaching a dipstick to the underside of this 3/4" bsp plug, its malleable iron ?

drill through it and braze the dipstick in

As BS says drill it through, no need to braze it though (unless you want to), malleable cast fittings will weld just just fine using ordinary consumables.

As above, Re.drilling. but you could always thread the end and screw it in, either blind hole or right through with a nut either side of the cap,( Domed nut on the outside just to keep the quality in line with the rest of the build.

I imagine you get through a lot of fluids in your line of work.
I was killing time in Regents park before a hospital appointment watching a couple of guys with a Unimog (or similar) with a chipper on the back.
They had a well-rehearsed practice of moving a upturned road sign as an oil catch pan each time the vehicle advanced forward, to stop oil dripping on the path.
That type of vehicle must take a lot of abuse and ongoing maintenance.
