Please explain to me a plausible situation in which this would be possible. He is to use a 20mm nail, through 6mm plywood, into 18mm floorboards. There is no way the nail will project below the underside of the floorboard.
Well I found this little gem in a rental. 2.5mm spur off a ring. A loose bit of board sat on the cable. Just shows how pipes & cables can be very close to the underside of the floorboards etc. I reckon anyway these boards were <20mm.

I've seen gas and water pipes sat in a 15/22 mm notch at the top of the joist frequently.
