The Worlds biggest and best welding and metal working exhibition will take place next week in Dusseldorf, Germany. It takes place every 4 years and pretty much every welding manufacturer will have a presence there in one way or another.

It's always been in Germany, it's usually held in a town called Essen so much so that most people involved in the UK industry refer to it as the Essen Show, but they are refurbishing the Essen exhibition hall hence the reason it will be in Düsseldorf this time round.

Unfortunately you will have to travel outside of the UK for any meaningful welding related exhibition. There's used to to be plenty of regional well attended exhibitions and a National one called Weldex which was a big event but that all stopped about 15-20 years ago.

Well for one it costs alot of money just to rent the space. My First MTB expo I did in 97' at Olympia cost me the best part of 7k all in for a 3mx3m stand. Good knows how much the big boys spend

I've only been to Fabtech once, the first time it was in Las Vegas about 8 years back. Considering it is the main exhibition for the single largest welding market in the world, I have to say it was really quite poor and disappointing in comparison to how good the welding exhibitions are in Continental Europe.

S&S/Essen, is every 4 years.

The next biggest one will be Euroblech in Hannover, next September but it mainly caters for the German speaking countries but a lot of the major players will be there and some use it as oppertunity for launching new lines of equipment.

It's a shame you can't make it to Düsseldorf as it really is huge in comparison to anything else in Europe

I remember Weldex, another one now long gone was Automan for the robot industry.

When the model railway club I was in moved it's annual show to the NEC in 1993 I think it cost £17k to hire hall 11 for 3 days over a weekend, then they add on costs for each power point provided, catering etc. as you have to use their on-site services for everything.

That first year was a nerve wracking time for us, but it was a success and has since grown year on year to the premier UK exhibition

won a day pass to this off esab the other day wont be going to Dusseldorf for it id rather do euroblech again as it has plenty of welding but has all the major cnc crowds i deal with.
euroblech is well worth the visit for anyone with any interest in engineering

The robot company I worked for stopped attending the Automan show and held their own open days which they invited prospective customers to.

Open days are a brilliant idea. Especially if you put on accommodation and entertainment for an overnighter. Used to love them in my corporate days

S&S is one of those exhibitions where by, for a global manufacturer you would get more bad publicity and questions from not attending than the benefits if you do. Kind of a rock and hard place.

Although in saying that, at Euroblech last year we generated around 200 positive leads per each day of the fare, given that Düsseldorf will be approximately twice the size our goal is 300-400 leads per day.

It would be impossible to visit that many perspective customers for us as company in such a short space of time.

I won’t be at the show until Wednesday but there is no harm now in sharing some pictures of a new Tig model that is being showcased at S&S.

These photos are from the product training I received a week ago and are not official marketing photos.

The MicorTig 200 DC, Full function 200 amp DC Tig, 115v-230v, Generator and will work on our Lithium-Ion rechargeable Battery, MobilePower1. It is the smallest, lightest and most compact within its class. As well as being able to withstand falls from 80cm the Machine is also CEL electrode capable. The model shown is the Flagship ControlPro front panel, but a simpler BasicPlus option is also available.

Tig performance off the battery is around 1 hour at a average current of 50 amps down to about 20 mins with a average current of around 120 amps. There’s a new backpack available which can carry one of the small bottles of Argon for complete Off grid welding and Tig welding in really inaccessible places.

An off shoot of this machine is also the MicorStick 180, which is also Auto 115v & 230v and will work with the Battery.
