Ahhhhh, you b****r, I bought a box of these and we briefly spoke in another thread that they sound more like 6011 than 6010, I was going to come back with my results from trying them on AC but you've beaten me to it!

I'm actually still trying to find something to weld which gives me a good enough excuse to try them out!

Yes, I've heard they're nice to tack with.
I'm keen on the idea of them for most jobs (if I get along with them of course) for the deep penetration and ability to cope with mucky metal. Plus I'd like to see what they're like welding vertical down, I'm itching to give that a try.
I've two sprockets to weld up for the tracks on a crawler, they're worn out and I'm welding bits of bar onto each tooth to extend them. They'll have some work to do, so I'm probably going to use these 6010 rods for the root, then fill and cap with 7016/18 while warm so the hydrogen should disappear and the tensile strength should be up to the job.

They're awesome vert-down... I use the 6010/7016 on most jobs now, quick, strong, never get a worm track, easy to see the puddle when upside down on my back fixing something... 6013 has a place but I run them so rarely nowadays.

Haha, that's what I've come to think about 6013 - I always want to have them available, but very rarely want them.
I got to have a little play with these 6010 rods today. Not quite sure what to make of them yet, but I think I'll get to like them.
I remember when I first tried 7018 after years on 6013 and it just seemed so different it was hard to have confidence in their strength, but of course now I don't look back.
The best way I could describe the 6010 is difficult! A very fiery arc with no shortage of spatter even more than I expected, however having said that after now looking at the packaging I was running a little too hot. Clever me threw the packet in the bin thinking 'I'll remember the amperage guides', so after getting home I ended up digging it back out and finding the suggestions to be a fair bit lower than I was using.
As I was doing actual work with them I didn't try experimenting with the amperage as much as I should have done.
I did have a go at vertical down on a job and was impressed, I think I could get used to welding downhill! I'd have really struggled on that thickness going uphill.
I tried them on AC and they ran, if anything, better than on my cellulose capable inverter. However, I wasn't having the best welding day ever (the sort of welds you're glad nobody will look at), and while using the inverter I was in an uncomfortable position in a cattle yard stood in s***, so that does make it hard to give a fair comparison.
The oil cooled welder was on the high voltage setting which also runs 7018 OK, I didn't try the lower voltage setting. I don't know if 6011 rods can be used on any AC voltage or if they're fussy and need higher settings like 7018's do.

A quick review now that I've had a chance to burn a handful. They keyhole well, and the keyhole is nicely controllable. Not as fierce an arc as 5p+ which left me short of root fusion. 100amps advised for downhand open root, 1.5mm land, 2.4 ish mm gap.
Ran on ac, 475hz, they start well but do have a habit of favouring the thinner side if you grind a poor bevel, like I did.
All told, for the money, very pleased.

Funny,id reverse the land and gap setup you have on downhand.what machine is running em at 475hz?

I tried using them off a little buzzbox earlier but that didn't do much other than stick, though I got the impression that I just wasn't being patient enough and they probably would have worked.
I've also just bought some Lincoln (true) 6010 rods and burnt them tonight. I thought it would be interesting to compare the Super 6 to a good brand (at about twice the cost).
I have to say that, although the expensive ones are nicer, there's nothing wrong with the Super 6 rods and I think they're great value for money.
