SO, i ended up buying this old thing just for something to play with, it was on and off ebay several times and i felt sorry for the poor bloke selling it
Its a Portamig Motamig 160, pretty old, very retro looking, figured id just post on here on the off chance anyone is interested or has one similar and its in some way useful, they seem pretty obscure
Story is it arcs but doesnt feed wire, if i cant get it going i'll just rob all the useful bits out of it and bin the rest, for £60 it was worth it for the entertainment
Where i'm at with it right now:
just picked it up, has a poke around, contactor isnt original but looks to be wired up the same way (another thread on here had me wondering since it makes mention of a 4-N/O contactor on these which this chint isnt, but it looks like the wiring hasnt been played with that much in that area, the internals themselves also look completely different in that machine vs this one aside from the feed motor).
Wires going to the feed motor have been cut and then rejoined, motor was apprently tested externally and working.
Pcb looks ok from the front, some of the solder joints from look a bit crap peaking down the back of it, also looks like it'll be a compete pain to get too since there are a couple of semiconductors bent round backwards and screwed to the ally backplate, i'e they were screwed to that before they were soldered on the pcb and i'm going to have to stick the iron between the backplate and board de-solder them before i can get at the backside of the board. (see attatched)
One of the capacitors looks as if its leaked a tiny amount, going to pretend i didnt see that for now.
Glass fuses at the front of the machine had been switched around, 2.5A for the aux transformer, and a 6.3a one for the pcb, there was a 5A one in the aux transformer holder and a blown 2.5a one in the pcb one, not sure what the deal is there.
Dont have any 20mm glass fuses annoyingly, or cant find them, so i'm stuck for a while now, will update more and possibly have annoying questions to ask you all later
