I have a Brit weld 180 weld rite old welder looking for a motor speed controller would any one no best place two source something simler teo fit
I took roller off two see motor turn when pressing trigger it will move if u help itWas it running slow with the wire feed roller in place? Photo shows the roller missing.
Is wire free to move? Is drive erratic or constantly slow?
If I alter wire speed knob at front it turns down then won’t start back up with out help turning part roller sits on key weeI took roller off two see motor turn when pressing trigger it will move if u help it
I waz wondering can’t motor be took apart serms like sticking it fo they do a replacement partI took roller off two see motor turn when pressing trigger it will move if u help it
Yes if I turn the wire speed knob down it stops and then it needs help two turn motor when turn back upPossible reasons for the fault include:
Motor
- bearings
- brushes
Gearbox
- bearings
- hardened lubricant ( grease )
Power source
- probably has a medium-sized transformer & rectifier, with 12v or 24v output
Speed controller
- probably have to debug and fix the original board, or replace it with a modern equivalent
I would start with the gearbox; clean out and renew the grease.
The motor is likely to look similar to a windscreen-wiper motor. Even if it is a 24v motor, you could check it by disconnecting one of the supply wires and using a 12v car battery to test how well it runs. If it is very slow or hesitates, check the brushes.
Sometimes the wire speed is linked to the welding voltage. Can you still strike an arc at the tip of the MIG wire?
Have you checked the wire speed at all settings of the main welder power control?
Is there any one around that works on these machines or has a new motorYes if I turn the wire speed knob down it stops and then it needs help two turn motor when turn back up
