what should a 6010 weld bead look like

Just tried out some fleetweld 5ps courtesy of "the Flasher" had a go laying beads they went okay... thought id give a butt weld a go. this is what happened , anyone got any ideas for improvements or pictures of what a decent 6010 bead should look like.

You can either drag it straight like a 6013 or 7018,or do the step pause thing aswell.not bad for a first go.there are some artists out there

I tried the whip and pause thing but it makes it look really messy , think I made the steps to late as well . Needed to see a decent weld to see what I had to try and achieve

Yes a 6010 is supose to look like that if you do a root pass use 6010 3.2mm and then a 7018 2.5mm set the welder on 90 amps they will run good

6010/11 roots never look bonny.

Any welder supply worth its salt should stock them.esab do a 6011 called nu5 which are cheap and easy on the machine.bout 80 quid for a 20kg carton

Well it might be that way in some areas but it aint the situation round here or even on the net without phoning and asking specifically

If your whipping to keep the keyhole under control things normally look messy from the outside
if the setup is perfect,gap land and amps,you can just bury the rod and drag it,like stoving uphill.then you cant get it neat inside and out
did this while learning a couple of years ago

What about the esab 6010/11 that cost £80 20kg it doesent say the price

Thats what they cost here,in 3 places ive found them,they should be the same anywhere in the uk or Ireland.if they quote you considerably more,haggle or hang up.
anywhere that sell a lot of esab stuff should have them,or be able to get them for you.they only come in 20kg tins

6011 are the same as 6010s but can be used on AC..............who would want to use them on AC?

Yes but 6011 work better with a dc inverter and the arc is smoother then with 6010 iv seen rods called 3080 and 7028 7026 7030

I think what Al meant was they can be used on AC setting ie current alternating between polarities.

No iv seen them on rapid welding
