Hi, i am a fitter by trade but have little experience in MIG welding. I have a Unimig 350 3 phase MIG welder. I am running both steel wire and stainless steel. I run pure Argon as I use it for the TIG welder as well. I am running 0.9mm wire.
my gas is running 20 l/min (and I can hear it) and my volts are set at 24.1. I can't say what my wire feed is. My wire is rust free. My wheels are near new. The tip is a fresh one. The shroud is clear and in good order. The wire tension seems to be set right.
My issue is 2 fold. 1 = when I weld the wire burns back to the tip and often welds to it, requiring me to get the pliers and free it or wait a few seconds and drive it off the tip. 2 = when i am welding i am going ok then all of a sudden i loose the typical pop and crackle and the weld drops of and it become a very unsuccessful fusion weld, until i blow a hole because the amp are too great.
i have checked the earth, thinking that this may be an issue, but although the rubber shroud on the bayonet has perished it looks sound. so again, i know what i know and i know i am no expert in MIG, but this has me ********.
any suggestions, please.
