02 Incompetence (E Sim for Smartwatch)

Where do I start with this.... I went into an 02 shop last Sunday and upgraded my phone and at the same time went for a contract on a Samsung Watch 6 Smartwatch with its own Sim. Therefore I can leave my phone at home when walking pooch etc and have Spotify and WhatsApp etc working.

Anyway- they didn't activate the watch sim on the day and turns out 02 shop nor 02 themselves after 16 phonecalls approx can generate the required E Sim QR code for the watch to pull in the sim.

I have figured most of it out myself despite no help and only misinformation from 02. But the QR code I can now generate on the my02 app does not work!!

Anyone else had issues with a Smartwatch E sim?

i wouldnt have one rather use an ipod instead or even an mp3 player

smartwatch are for those that cant do without certain things

you can always take it back as not fit for purpose

Yes was awaiting this type of response on here.

Guys I do alot of 15 mile hikes etc. I can leave my phone behind and track progress and listen to music etc in the watch. Simples. So LESS time with face stuck in the phone!

It's not for Facebook or anything I don't use that or social media at all.

Returning it isn't practical either. They offered an exchange watch to which I said how will that address the QR code issues? 02 couldn't answer that one

Absolute cobblers and a totally uninformed view, go have yourself a heart attack (or four) and see how fast you change your mind, not that I am suggesting anyone should actually go have a heart attack of course, bloody inconvenient things they are.

I do know someone who was alrerted on their smartwatch a couple weeks back of an irregular heartbeat and issues. He rang docs and was told to go to A&E right away. They said he was about to have a heart attack and got him treated in time.

This Samsung Watch 6 Classic has blood oxygen, pressure and all sorts of monitoring so definitely useful in that regard.

My job is on construction site at times and I am currently carrying my work phone and leaving personal phone in car. The watch connectivity will also allow any emergency messages or calls to come through even if I don't have my phone on me which is another benefit for me personally.

the qr code is part of what i hate and really they should supply an alternative solution as well when they offer a qr code

from the look ive done its try cleaning your lens to downloading another app to read the qr code

use of qr codes when phone wont scan them - Google Search

as goes for returns to a shop your statory rights isnt effected the issue stands with the qr code and therfore you cannot get it fully working without that qr code

or to have it registered on there system without that code

@ajlelectronics what do you know of non working qr code and returned items to the shop

from my knowledge the item can still be returned its up to the user if they want a full return and not another offer

however in this case the op wants the item for the intended purpose so therefore a second offer could be excepted and hopefully whats been done can be sorted quickly and therefore a new qr cod could be used with the new item

I'll explain this a bit better too. The 02 shop are completely unable to understand why I need a QR code or indeed how to provide that! They sell these watches by the dozen so I do not understand this at all. I was showing them for 1 hour last night how to go into the Samsung smart watch app and how it requires a QR code to bring in the E Sim.

02 on the phone are also completely useless and also do not understand the root of the problem and cannot provide a QR code either! Utter incompetence and I am very calm and thorough in explaining this to them.

About the 3rd sim in now the issue last night was the 02 shop insisted I needed to log into the my 02 desktop app account associated with the watch sim. But the 02 site texts a code to that watch number to let you in!! And no other verification method available. Dumb dumb system. So they told me to activate the E sim on my phone then (which can take 2) to review the texts. I did so on their instruction. Then the my 02 desktop site wouldn't let me in anyway as it said too many attempts. Shop and 02 customer services could take it no further and closed for the night. 02 customer services on the phone say the 02 shop should have generated the QR code for me but the shop don't know how to do t but won't even admit that.

So I opened the my 02 phone app again (which I CAN log into as it doesnt ask for the text) and played with it for a few mins and discovered myself that I can generate the QR code. Which I did and tried to bring it into watch and it then threw this up:


I *think* this may be because the E sim was already activated on my phone by instruction of the shop in thier incompetence as above.

So I put in the 20th or so call just now to 02 202 number and they agreed to re issue another E sim. So when this comes in I will then go to my 02 app and get the QR code. Then see if the watch pulls it in then.

Total session for something that should be simple and 02 is just a joke that they do not know how to address this.

There is also the real possibility that 02 are selling smart watches with cellular contracts that are not Compatible. Which is what the message above is saying.

Fixed!!

I figured it out myself. There is a critical setting with the main phone as follows:



These permissions for the phone to "talk" to another device are default off. So these need turned on.

And then the SIM QR code worked and now the watch seems to whattsapp etc away from my phone. I will go for a walk later (Solar walk, Davagh forest really nice actually) and will track that using just the watch as intended.

The watch SIM card technically does have a different phone number. But that does not matter.

Note I have a Samsung phone, Samsung watch and both on 02 sims. The watch is configured and setup from the main phone and therefore it copies the phone's details using its own SIM card data connection if that makes sense.

So my watch has the same phone number as my phone yes in short.

I am really only scratching the surface of what these watches can do but noticed this also. Would be a great feature for a family member with health issues etc
