1/2" to 1/4" coupling

Sorry, newbie question here.

I bought a 2nd hand compressor with a faulty pressure switch, I bought a new switch unit, gauge, regulator and moisture traps etc. (all off eBay) to give it a bit of a refurb. But I just realised the inlet on the bottom of the new switch is 1/4" and the long connector piece from the tank to the switch is 1/2" as the inlet in the base of the old switch was larger.

Where can I get one male 1/2 to male 1/4 or will I need 1/2 to 1/2 plus a step down. And what's it called so I know what to search for, general terms link "coupling" are getting me everything but.

Reducing bush or reducing nipple, depending on if the threads are male or female.

Thanks guys, but it's the one in the picture so a long one, the ones in that first link would be too short. I need the height for the switch to clear the tank.

I could use a short one in conjunction with the piece I already have (would need to be female/male then)but to be honest the old one is a bit crusty so thought it would be nice to have a nice new single piece 1/2 male and one end 1/4 male at the other and less joints.

and yes, obviously eBay but without knowing what it was called I couldn't get any results.

Use the existing post to get the height and a reducer to take the new switch.

Have a good look through the supplier's website in post #2 to find exactly what you want.

Thanks, will use the old one if I have to, just thought for the sake of a few quid it would be nice to replace the 'post' too as it's a bit rusty inside on on the threads - not a good indicator to the state of the tank :-( ??

You could use a 1/2" to 1/4" reducing bush into the tank and a 1/4" bps barrel nipple,

Yes, that of thing, It's just the terminology I don't know I've got an idea of what I want to achieve but can't find the parts because I don't know the search terms. Think I've got a grasp on it now, need to pop out in the morning and there's a machine mart near where I'm going. I'll take the parts with me and see if they have a solution. If not I'll order a few bits online and work it out. Think I've got enough to go on now. Thanks all.

Or a 1/2"BSP to 1/4"BSP reducing socket and a 1/4"BSP hexagon nipple. Assuming of course that the existing tank extension is 1/2"BSP and not metric!
