Hello,
I would like to get some professional opinions on whether 110 amps or so is sufficient to weld 4 inch wide 1/4 flat bar to the side of 4 inch high 1/8 square tube. There is about a 1/16 gap between them and it is welded flat to flat, like a fish plate. This would be a critical part, a suspension cross member in a kit car. I planed to tig weld it with about 110 amps, and 3/32 filler. The is the factory rounded edge on the square tube and I planed to burn hot on the flat bar and weld along the gap. The machine can go up to 130 amps but if I go this hot the 1/8 tends to get too hot on test pieces.
Worst case would be that I would have to do a 7018 cap on top of every tig weld but I do not like the thought of this, I want every thing to be tiged but I don't want to go thought bottles of gasses with multi pass welds.
Do you think what I planned will be sufficient or not. The all single pass tig method that is.
