10 T porta power won't work.

Hi,

New to forum. Needing help brought me hwre. Bought a 10t porta power. Literally used twice yesterday. @ the hydraulic ram refused to retract and (b) the pump either doesn't pump at all when connected to ram or the ram moves up and down an inch.
Any help plz .

There is a spring to retract the ram. If that has disconnected then the ram will not retract and will contain most of the oil from the pump reservoir. Have you tried to retract the ram manually, obviously with the pump connected and the bleed valve opened?

Have you checked that has the correct oil level? could be the reason is not pumping.

Also check the hose is fully tightened on to the ram.
They have a self selling coupler and if there is pressure in the system and not fully tight they won't do anything.

under the screw release is a ball bearing on the pump, have heard they can stick (overtightening)!!!!!!!!! check it's not stuck.....drop the pump on a block of wood to shock it........
REMBER the ram wont retract uless the hose is connected.......

Looks new. If you can rule out user errors I would be sending it back.

The ram is extended at the moment, reconnect the hose to the ram then open the retract knob, just make sure the hose coupling is fully home.

If necessary push the ram closed, as stated above the return spring may have become detached.

Did you by any chance disconnect the hose with the ram fully extended, while the ram was under pressure, ie: loaded???

I think there is a valve in the ram so as @zzr1200 says if disconnected with the ram open it would stay but given they are a screw fit you wouldn't be able to disconnect it that quick without getting oil come out.

Those cheap hand pumps can be a bit of a pain, I mounted the one on my press so it's pointing down towards the hose.

With the valve open you can pump the handle a few times with the back propped up, that will bleed the pump. If you then hold a cloth over the end of the hose and press the plunger in you can bleed the hose with once you've closed the valve.

Really appreciate the feedback... thanks, I topped up the oil on it. I've manually tried getting it to retract by just trying to press down on it. I had the pump pointed downwards and released the oil screw and heard some air escape. Thought this was it fixed .Tightened the hose into the ram but still not pumping or retracting.

How do you retract it manually? Theres a pin and bolt located on the ram ?

Push the ram against a bench/the ground/a wall to force it back into the body.

Tried this several times. Problem is the ram doesn't even extend. It's literally moves up and down an inch but remains in same fixed position. Reminds me of a turd! Abit like this porta power

I wouldn't mess with it, just send it all back for exchange or refund.

Try using the pump on the hydraulic wedge to see if the fault lies in the cylinder or pump.

i have more strange prpblem. my porta open the wedge spread but at at half only, and cant cress the pump anymore... even i use force can pump a little but no more spread open.. it stuck stay like it is maximum already but only half open... strange..

When you tried to push the ram in, did you have the hose connected? The fitting on the ram is probably, (my one is) a shutoff valve until the hose is pushed in to open.

You could try unscrewing the valve slightly in the ram to relieve any pressure and with this fully unscrewed, you should be able to push the ram in easily but BE CAREFUL as if theres pressure in it it may fire out!

With the ram off, The pump unit should pump until the handle will not move easily, i.e, theres pressure in the hose. When the relief valve is turned the hose should relax and the hanle move easily.

The 'tubing joint' that the seller says is broken is the retaining nut for the fitting!!

I have a 10-15 years old sealey porta pack/hidraulic ram and gubbins just like the one you have, its been very reliable along the years and has seen plenty bodywork straight ! When they pack in its usually due to pressure leaks and not enough oil not the way you describe it... As pointed above, connect the hose back to the ram and open the valve, ram should be retracting on its own back into the cylinder, you disconnect the hydraulic hose then if you connect it to the wedge it should open as it sould...
