22mm Copper to Airline?

Hi Folks,

Just let me apologise in advance for being a complete noob and asking what might seem to you to be stupid elementary questions.



I have a Sealey 2hp 50ltr compressor which I thought would be enough to run my impact wrench and my grinder and stuff. It struggles to run anything with any power and I always seem to be waiting for it to catch up with me.

I have it connected to one of those spiral hose things which I don’t think is doing it justice. So I have decided to hard wire it in with 22mm copper pipe which I already have.

My question is how do I go from 22mm copper pipe to airline, what reducers etc do I need to make it all work and where can I find them?

Basically, plumbing fittings. I use 15mm copper pipe and use a mix of compression and yorkshire fittings. I use a braided flexi pipe from B&Q to connect the compressor to the pipes then yorkies for the bends etc and compression fittings to connect the regulators.

I'd use a solder reducer to go down to 15mm, then fit a compression fitting to this (Wickes). The threads on these is 1/2" BSP, so you can get a 1/2" bsp to whatever thread your hose fitting has.

Another way I do it is to get a washing machine tap, this will fit on the 15mm and then use the hose tail from an old washing machine hose to connect to my airline. This gives you a tap to turn the air off.

I'm sure you will be able to get 22mm to 1/4bsp or just solder a 1/4bsp fitting to the 22mm

Thank you all very much for you help, I went to Screwfix yesterday and bought a 15mm female to 1/2 male fitting and then soldered a 1/4 bsp bayonet fitting in to the male end, cleaned it up and screwed the nut back on. Looks neat, don't know if it works yet but it looks neat.

when i did mine i didnt let the solder freeze enough and sprayed solder everywhere out of the joint. Patience
