24V battery charger

I have acquired some time ago 24V battery charger.
don't know the source or it's original purpose, but I used it for charging of two 12V SLA batteries connected in series.
It is a nice, robust, Made in UK (not cheap Chinese ****) piece of kit.
It worked fine, but was a bit of a PITA connecting the batteries to charge, plus I was always concerned about charging batteries in series causing problems...
So the question to knowledgeable amongst you is:
Can it be converted to 12V ? (that would be my preferred option)
if not, would it be of use for anything?
what was it for originally for? I suspect some kind of trolley?

Probably from a disability scooter? they are usually 24V. Shouldn't be too problematic charging in series if they are similar batteries...

It probably can be fettled to work at 12V, but it would be nice to see inside. I see that it did 7A at 24V; what sort of current to you want at 12V?

my concern was that, because each battery was used separately, they arrived at charging point at differing state of discharge...
Disability scooter makes sense

but... I am guessing you use (as well as charge) these batteries as one "connected in series battery"?

SLA batteries have a maximum charge rate, usually at around the 4 to 5 hour charge rate e.g. 3A for a 12Ah SLAB.

Thank you, so in my case it should be between 2A and 3A max (not 7A)
That is one more reason I am beginning to think that my idea about using this charger is daft and I should probably just get rid of it
