24v lead acid battery upgrade

We bought this, used, for my kids for Christmas. The chargers that come with these are rubbish and the batteries don't last so knew it would probably need a replacement.

I was thinking just but a decent lead acid replacement and wire it so I can plug it into a decent charger.

Then it occurred there might be a better upgrade.

It's 24v. What would you replace the battery with if you were going to improve it?

i was a little naughty and used proper car/ bike batterys and they last longer and also easier to charge

but watch your lead from the batterys it does got hot

i had the jeep version 2 seater

whats your amps as well ?

as even tool batterys can be used nowadays even in dual battery mode

24v 5 amp lithium batterys for tools

You could use 2 motorcycle lithium batteries in series. But with a 12 v charger youd need to disconnect to charge.

This morning I spent a few hours fixing the plastic on Grandsons quad after he threw it upside down in a drainage ditch! Petrol is the future!

Car batteries are not designed for deep cycle service so it might pay to go with a LiFePo battery.
It would be a more expensive option but safe and last well.

Maybe replace with a 24v ebike Lithium battery and charger:

I used 2 m/cycle gel batts for my conversion.....bought the biggest that would fit.....no acid if theres a roll over...
batts lasted around 4 years....also bought a cheapo Chinese 24 volt charger....thats still here somewhere....
gonna put together a small m'cycle together the same way for use around the farm....
petrol goes off to quick in the heat here......

Not too sure of the size for your application, but mobility scooter batteries might be an option. Alternatively electric bicycle or scooter battery, have a look and see what's available on the net auction sites.

If something like that will last it will.cost the same as several LA replacements over the years. I can wire it for the charger that comes with it.

No point in purchasing something that will not do the job required.

That was just a random pick on eBay. It does have a 10A fuse on the charge socket and a 50A fuse on the output to the load side.
It also has a BMS - Battery Management System - which in theory should monitor temperature and also the individual cell voltages as they charge and discharge, to keep them balanced.
The ad states: "With a 25A BMS protection board to prevent overcharging, over discharging, overcurrent and short circuit." Still, I would not leave it charging indoors or overnight.

As @not done it yet said, you need to check the maximum current draw of the motor at full throttle and full load, to confirm that a 25A BMS would be sufficient, and also decide if a 10Ah battery would provide sufficient range/time.

The "Ultramax 15Ah LiFePO4" battery that you found has higher capacity, and that type of cell chemistry is inherently safer regarding fire risk than basic Li-ion.

Does this give any more info? This is what's fitted and it has a 15amp fuse on the positive wire from the battery. I think the specs are 4x45W motors.

The original specs state 60-90 minute run time. We are lucky if we are getting 20 mins currently.

Size is 10cm high, 10cm deep and 18.5cm long. You could go to 20cm long 14cm deep and around 15cm high and still get it to fit so room to go bigger.

The chargers that come with these always seem pretty basic. Think this is just a 500ma trickle charger. A light goes green on it after some time so assume it turns off when full.
