Is there any disadvantages/advantages to using 2k solid as apposed to 2k basecoat?

easier as in theres less coats to put on

less chance of reactions over poor prep

less products to buy

Is 2k basecoat better quality and provide a better finish than 2k solid?

no not really , clear coat finishes might be a bit nicer looking if polished up to show standards

Just to add to this:

If COB is a bit nicer than Solid then how would Solid look with Clear.

Sounds a stupid question I bet but will Clear over Solid look nicer than COB?

id not start making my own systems

if you want solid , then go for that its designed to work with no clear

if you want clear coat then get the proper basecoat system

any of them will look superb over good prep and sanded then polished up well

its totally pointless putinng clear over solid and more expensive if you want to go the laquer route then just get some basecoat in the colour that you want

solid 2k THE disadvantage is it fades ,unless you keep on top and keep polishing it its OK .Base and clear is the best way to go .All new cars are base and clear.This spoiler on my car was done in a solid color .look how it has faded ,to the boot lid.it will polish up .But who wants to do that every time.
