32a wall circuit

If I were to run a new circuit from consumer unit at back of garage to an outlet at front of garage with a 32a socket for my welder would this work:

Here's my thinking from socket back to consumer unit

32a industrial socket with switch
∆
Article cable 4mm² 3 core flex cable
∆
45a type b rcbo
∆
Consumer unit

You need a 32a rcbo protecting a 32a socket otherwise you could potentially pull more amps through the socket than it was designed to handle = bad! Unlike a 13amp plug, 32amp commando style plugs don't have an inbuilt fuse therefore need overcurrent protection upstream. It may be worth you asking a qualified spark to have a look at your current set up and give some advice - better to be safe than sorry!

10kva, type c based on the info on the link if you are going to be using it regularly at high power. If you are just going to set it around the mid range then type b may be sufficient but you need to speak to a local leccie tht can come and look at your current set up as there are other factors to consider before throwing a 32 amp supply up

Is KVA getting confused with KA - the mcb's maximum short circuit breaking capacity??? If so you want a 6KA rated mcb - 10KA mcbs tend to be used in more industral non-domestic installations with a higher pfc...

I just edited my last post as I thought it was confusing plus needed a bit more in it. You need to have the cu checked to see if it will take that load without tripping the main switch or blowing the main incoming fuse. Most times its not a problem but can be an issue if you have a relatively small main fuse and have a few high current appliances

Just read it properly, first time I just banged the numbers in and came out with needing 10kva but you are right 10ka mcbs are usually industrial gear

The welder draws 25 amps running and 5700 watts, what I would like to know is will a 6000 trip or do I need to go bigger?

We have a 100a main fuse,

Where are the mcbs for lighting? Looks like it should be ok though, the likleyhood of you having the shower and cooker on full whilst welding and using all the sockets is quite low

2 off Lightings are both 6a each, the shower is used as a clothes rail by cause the cubicle is really too small so it is never used now

In that case you just need a mcb from the likes of screw-up, some suitable cable (4mm) and a socket of your choice rated to 32amps

I got. Bit confused to begin with but am up to my neck in a broken cnc lathe on a night shift and didn't read it properly to start with. I would still advise a chat with a local leccie who can advise based on what he can see though

Do not wire it in flex, its contravenes wiring regulations.
Do it properly with conduit and singles.

How can there be any difference in me using 4mm² flex against 3 x 4mm² individual cables

Why use singles? I'm all for conduit as mechanicl protection but why singles?
