40 amp isolator??

bought a single phase compressor off ebay the other day, there is a sticker on it saying for use with single phase a 40 amp isolator needs to be used

can anyone sort me a link or point me in the right way for this

what size motor is on the compressor and how many full load amps is it. what are u wiring it back to

There will be a data plate with all the info on it, post a pic if possible.

the motor plate will give u the data .eg how many kw. if its a 3hp it will say 2.5 kw and give u the full load amps which would be about 12 amps for a 3hp motor look it up and let us know and more advice can be given . a 40 amp isolator is just an on off switch that will take 40 amp current

Well it certainly wont require 40 amps. Is that a 3 pin plug on the end of it?

it wont need an isolator unless its hard wired in try it on a 13 amp plug and if its popping fuses on startup it will want hard wiring in to a 20 amp c type minature circuit breaker using a 20 amp double pole switch near the compressor .that will be your isolator .

i only asked because it says on the yellow sticker on the front that if used single phase it needs a 40 amp isolator, if used 3 phase it needs a 20 amp isolator

if not you might be better getting someone in.

didnt even dawn on me they were missing but i did think something looks odd there but it still didnt click

It is just that some people do not, and it just seems strange to have sticker stating the use of single OR three phase.
I dont think I have ever seen a piece of equipment advising on the size of the isolator
that is usually the job of the sparky.

this is not a thread about what is missing, i know it needs a new pressure switch and cover for the pulleys/belt
