Will a 50L,2.5hp compressor run an air sander, cut off tool ect? Only need it on a diy basis as i restore my old car and i don't mind if i need to wait a little while for it to refill
I struggle with mine. I find the compressor needs to run constantly and the tools slow down quite a bit. To prevent overheating of the compressor I move it out side and stop frequently allowing to build up full pressure and rest awhile. Its a bit of a pain really but its all I have. If you can get some thing bigger or run two linked compressors of seperate supplies.
You are right on the limit as CKJDJK suggests and dependant which make of tools you have they may not manage at all.
Mine is the same size and any tools I use is for a short burst only, air drill, cut off tool etc, prolonged use and it becomes tedious with the loss of power and deafening with the comp running all the time.
id say its just suitable for air dusting and the odd small paint job , the air tools really suck it up , youd get a short burst from a drill or sander but wouldnt be good
Just an FYI.... Tank size isn't everything, so don't think a 100L one will be better for extended usage. It will just take longer to run out. If the compressor is producing less air than you're using, then eventually any tank will run out.
I have a 50L (I think) unit with a 3HP motor and 3 cylinder compressor. It does everything I need, but did cost a fair bit! I can pretty much use any tool at almost constant usage without running out of air. With a cheaper unit, the compressor will run out of puff fast.
What you want to look at when comparing them is free air delivery, often noted as FAD. The higher that is, the better off you'll be. You could have two units both 50L tanks and 2.5HP motors, but with very different outputs (FAD figures).
Only saying all this as splashing out on a unit with a 100L tank isn't going to guarantee a better unit.
Air sanders and cut off tools use a LOT of air, for continuous use you'll need a decent unit. For short bursts of use you can get away with a cheaper unit. If you have any more questions just ask.
A couple of years ago i bought a oil free ,50L compressor and i found it never had the go in it for air tools,So i bought another compressor 50L but this run in oil proper bearings and it seemed OK,But i thought why get rid of the first one ?? I decided to couple them both up together wow,,
,Now i Normally use the oil free one,Then if i need more wind i switch the second one on and open the valve and they work together,4 weeks ago i switched both on, when they reached the pressure that i wanted,(( and that was at the end of a 40 length of hose))I resprayed my Ford Transit van with no noticeable drop in pressure.........Good for cleaning the vacuum cleaner as well lol
