5ft bender

got my hands on some 100x100x4mm angle
need to bend some 58" lengths of 1.2mm steel for a project boys wantto do.
i have a clarke bender but its only 36" can i scale that up using the angle?
or would i need to get some plans.

Hello,

my thoughts are that 4mm angle is too light to make a folder. Why not cut the sheet to 29" and butt weld two together? If you have many to do or the depth is also too great to weld I'd look for a fabricator and get them to do the folds?

if you only need a few it will be easier, quicker 7 probably more accurate to get them done.

As Piman, not going to be heavy enough for the forces involved in bending 1.2mm over virtually 5 foot. Size and weight of folders increase almost exponentially with capacity (bend length and/or sheet thickness). If they don't then all that happens is you end up with a bowed bend as the hold down bar deflects/bends/twists/lifts in the middle

Due to the forces involved once your into the length of bend being talked about things end up so heavy that commercially made folders of this size end up with counter weighted bending aprons to make manual operation possible without steroids and weigh many hundreds of kilograms- a 48" 16swg folder is going to weigh getting on for 300kg

As has allready been said - 4mm will just not be man enough !
I made one for a job at work to bend 1.2mm ally , 4mm angle and about 4 1/2 feet long - worked reasonably well on ally , but wouldnt even scare steel at that length !
