9v Battery options?

This is what Santa brought my boy, its an Arduino controlled triangle tank, in its current form it will navigate around and avoid obstacles but has a PS2 style controller to take over manual control

Anyway, it is great fun but it uses AA batteries at a horrendous rate

What rechargeable 9v batteries will be a good option? Im thinking something from the RC world?

It needs to be pretty compact and not require a special £80 charger

I would have thought a small 12v sealed lead acid with a 9volt regulator might be ok but you would need to check the weight implications

alternatively I have found the amazon basics rechargeable AA batteries to be reasonable in telephones so could be worth a try

A 3s lipo would get you to just over 11v then a 9v bec. Toolkit rc make some reasonably priced chargers but it depends on what current capacity you need

No thanks

The best option is looking like a subscription of Amazon basics alkaline batteries, rechargeable ones only give 7.2v so even when fully charged dont work

how about using 7.2v rechargeable batteries with a 9V 2A boost converter ( the one below is adjustable)

Lots of 9.6v rechargeable packs available in various capacities, not looked at appropriate chargers but basic ones should be affordable.

Fully charged 6 of them give 7.2v, the arduino boots but there's not enough volts to make the tracks move

They last as long as duracell

Remember, this is made of metal, has rubber tracks and 2 9v motors, for a toy it is very power hungry

If you get into lithium polymer battery packs ("Lipos") that are used for RC, you need to start worrying about the fire risk if they are mistreated, and the 'looking after' that they need to stay in good shape (not being left either fully charged or fully discharged for any length of time, etc.)

Not an issue, I have many, many kinds of batteries and chargers that I am able to manage perfectly well

And again, 6 x 1.2v = 7.2v. Not enough for the 9v motors. Yes I have tried my hideously expensive Enloop rechargeables
