a couple of questions

does the feed wheel need to be spotlessly clean, if so do i just use emery cloth type thing ?

if i am useing 0.8 wire which way does the wheel go on.
On the wheel it has 0.8 on one side and 0.6 on the other so 0.8 facing in or out

The wheel does need to be clean otherwise you'll erratic feed and possibly contamination of the liner.

You should be able to tell by looking which of the two grooves is the wider.

I'd use a wire brush on the wheel.

Look at the two grooves, one will be visibly wider. That will be the 0.8mm one.

the wheel is stamped either 6 or 8mm so if your using 6mm line the wheel up with the protruding cable

The chap i got it from had it set it up wrong the wire was not in the groove
He always said it was a crappy welder, looks like he just had it set up wrong !

On my old welder if you could see 0.8 to the outside the wire was in the 0.8 groove, is yours the same ?

I am fairly certain thats a standard roller for that machine.

Looking at the general care that has not been taken by the previous owner it may be worth replacing the liner, a metal liner is the way to go, I would also take the side panel off and blow out any dust/debri from the internals.... a bit of spit and polish and you should have a good machine there.
