Hi all,
Recently I’ve been trying my hand at making some sculptures as a fun way to practice welding and using up a supply of tubing that was kindly donated, and thought they might be of interest to the creative types on here.
First up is a little alien spider type thing, made from tube off cuts and filler rod.
Then I jumped up in size, with a couple of large tubular structures. These have started to rust nicely now.
Just finished today is this fern leaf. It’s made using off-cuts from a load of mitre joints I had prepared earlier in the year. It’s started to rust up like an autumn fern, and I’ve mounted it on a ply base (fixed proud of the surface ala Chunkolini’s wall art) so that it could be an internal piece (careful positioning needed – it’s quite spiky!), and stained the base black to really make the vivid colours stand out.
Also I’d just like to thank Chunkolini for taking the time to answer a few questions I had about metal artwork and his comments regarding the attached sculptures.
One last thing that might be of interest is a downhill bike I built a couple of years ago with fillet brazed joints: http://welwynmachineworks.blogspot.com. It’s taken a while but I’m currently trying to build a Mk2 version that I plan to TIG weld, hence all the practice projects.
Cheers,
Mark
