I look after one of those for a couple that have no electric in the summer (they have a water turbine for generating electric)
There is a chap on eBay that I have bought loads of bits off, brand new starter and ignition switch £48 delivered to France, bits are very reasonable and easy to come by.

i have repaired it before it was my mates he lives on a boat so needed a genny.
i first got involved with it when it wouldnt start someone else had stripped it but couldnt find the fault and in doing so damaged the alternator.
so upto date i have replaced the alternator, starter motor and an exhaust valve.
he obviously didnt maintain it very well as it burst into flames.
got it stripped now and most of it cleaned up.

Yes I've heard of citric acid being used (it's also in the majority of allow wheel cleaners) but didn't have too much success with it myself. Bought it as a powder off Ebay but not really sure what strength to mix it at.

this stuff is in a 25 litre container and bubbles up if you spill it, not to mention smells like youve just let one go

We use brick acid on really bad bits, it's a bit fierce though so you don't want to leave it on too long

Citric acid ....like in kettle descalers from Boots is good as well and you can mix it up a couple of pints at a time as strong or as weak as you like.

Bet it's not cheap at Boots. Got mine off Ebay.

If the 'cleaner' smells farty, it's probably dilute sulphuric acid.

it would have been nice if it was the first pic is a newer model and i wouldnt have had to lift a single tool note also mine has lost the stickers due to the re-spray.
all in all it only cost me 20 quid and that was to pick it up

anyone can just go out and buy stuff
its half the fun rebuilding stuff irispective of the time spent

started up well no swearing

but the satisfaction will come when i see the look on the guys face that gave me it as a write off
