There’s a Premiere inn at Holystone roundabout, just off the A19, 10 mins from me, then there’s a travelodge on silver fox way on the cobalt trading estate, again not far from me…and Redcar is about 50 miles from me…oh, there’s travelodge at seaton burn roundabout, junction A1/A19….
There's a Premier Inn south of Musselburgh just off the A1, but they're not usually cheap unless you get them on a cheap offer.
Might be worth a search for local hotels in Dalkieth, Haddington or Dunbar, as going much further you might as well keep heading south.

A 697 is both shorter and quicker as well as a far more pleasant drive.

From there your only choice is the A1, with out doing a bit of very slow west through twisty roads.

Yeah I'll just plod down on Monday morning. I was looking for hotels the other way and didn't see anything that took my fancy.

Depending on the time of your journey, the A1 to the A1231 takes you to the A19 can be very slow due to the current road works. The alternative is the Tunnel, but not sure what thats like traffic wise, as I never use it.

The joys. Google maps this morning was saying quickest route was via the A19. I'll check the morning of the journey. I don't fancy getting past Newcastle area but hey ho it is what it is.

Avoid the tunnel between 7-30 and 9-00 am, around teatime on an evening too.. it gets very busy going both directions…traffic can back up quite badly…ordinarily traffic flow is unhindered…if you do go, don’t forget to pay the toll by midnight..
