I've got a 2nd hand ABAC 50 litre 2hp hobby compressor, think it's date stamped 2004 or something and I've had it a couple of years now. I bought a service kit for it when I first got it as it wasn't coming up to pressure, I replaced the switch box thingy and added regulator etc. and since then it's been great.
I've used it for a little bit of paint spraying, small parts etc, inflating tyres and occasional run of air tools.
Recently I took on the project of refurbishing an old desk for my daughter, and since I had the compressor I had the idea "why don't we spray it?" which she liked and mucked it.
It's the most it's been run, we got a few coats done on the weekend and all was well. But I returned to it last night for a final coat and the compressor just seemed to run and run and didn't shut off when I expected it to. I kept turning it off manually as I was worried, which wasn't idea to maintain pressure but in the space of half hour I did what I needed to and no harm was done.
However I obviously want to fix it before I come to need it next time.
The only thing I can think of, I had the compressor in the same room, it was just may garage so no extraction (although I had the door open when I was using it) so there was a lot of 'dust'. There's a lot of overspray in the room, could it just be a strip down and clean, has it clogged up or could it be something else. How does the shut off work anyway?
thanks in advance.
And in case you're interested, I used a water based silk gloss for woodwork B&Q own brand quick drying formula. I had to guess how much to thin it down by as there were no instructions on the back since I doubt they expect you to use it this way, so was trial and error but came out OK, a few runs on the back where we did our testing but that'll be against the wall when it's back in her room. Here's some pictures....
