AC arc welding

Just wondering what rods I need for AC arc welding as I've never tried doing it but as my tigmaker can do it I thought I'd give it a go

I think most 7xxx rod's will run on ac if you just want to give it a go.

If it's a specific job then put up the details and somebody will reccomend something.

I've got several open boxes of ac rod's if you wanted a few of each to try out a few different types

For AC, the easiest rods to try and practice with will be 6013.

Yea, I've just had a look through some 6xxx series and a few types of those say suitable for ac & dc

Quite a few rods work with AC, check the AWS standard here:

MMA Electrode Classification

60XX or 70XX makes no difference, the last two digits do.

In all position rods, X011 to X018 all work on AC except X015. Of those, 6013, 6014 and 7018 would be pretty common.

6013 work on ac
7018 don’t work on ac unless the welder has a high open circuit voltage over 70 usually, and they don’t work well at that.
6010 don’t work at all
6011 316 and 29/9 all work.
Ac is fine it stops arc blow, but it’s not as nice as dc
