acrylic paint for respraying a car

hey guys. looking for some info on using acrylic paint for respraying a car. i've heard the results are just as good as using 2k but its more prone to chipping and scratches. is there anyway to make acrylic as durable as 2k and whats the best acrylic to use? i dont have access to a booth so acrylic would be my only option really.

I'm glad you are asking this question because, although I don't know the answer, I want more information on it.

1st of all - I take it you are in UK? Secondly - you mean 1K acrylic lacquer?

Everyone talks about cellulose in the UK but across the water the lacquer they use is acrylic. Cellulose went out in the 20s so why are we still using it here nearly a hundred years later?

No postwar cars were ever painted with cellulose. TPA....Thermo Plastic Acrylic was the material and I guess 1K acrylic lacquer is pretty close to that.

I just bought some TPA in the UK but it is pre-thinned. You can't seem to get 1K acrylic thinners anywhere.

What brand are you using?

Guess you mean 1k, aka basecoat, in which case the colour coats are normally under 2k clear. Or cover it with a 1k clear if you wanted to avoid the 2k business.
1k clear is not as good as 2k, but if needs must, that's that.

^ don't know where you got that info about celly etc but it's wrong.
Why are people using it, because it's what was used back in the day and looks right on some things, like restos.

1k thinners - Jawel and paints4u online, but just use 2k thinners. 1k clear always seems to be RFU though.
