Adding a 275 tank for extra air? advice.

Hi

I have a 2.2kw 240v hydrovane 15 with 100 litre tank fitted and have just purchased a large 275 litre tank to connect give me 375 litres of air.

Does the tank need to be within a certain distance to the compressor (next to it) as it would be better if I could have the Tank reciever downstairs in my workshop and the compressor upstairs out of the way.

Reading through the forum I understand that 22mm copper pipe would be ok to connect up with. The hydrovane seems to be getting to 11bar. The extra tank will take 11 bar no problem.

I have posted question in another post but wanted to make sure my question was clear.

So am I correct in thinking that i need 22mm copper pipe to conect from the end of the hydrovane or would steel be better. The lentgh would be no more than 20 - 30 feet away from compressor to tank.

Copper will dissipate the heat better. Put a slope on it away from the compressor so any condensate will be pushed along into the new receiver.

Ok, so I need 2 x 1" blanking bolts to blank off couple of ports.

Where is the best place to get these fixings and bits that I may need. Looking at screwfix they sell brass ones but not sure if they would be the best place to buy from.

Also, what it the best tool to use to remove the end bolt from the hydrovane. Looks around 2", no doubt that ****** will be tight as it looks like someone has been there.

When you say 1 inch do you mean 1 inch in diameter or 1 inch bsp, they're not the same.

Thanks for that, got all the fixings sorted now.

I will be running 2 compressors into this tank. I know both compressors have a non return valve but should I also add a non return valve on the inlet ports of the external tank?

Personally I wouldn't bother. As long as all (3) tanks can take the maximum pressure achieved by the compressors and you don't mind one compressor filling the tank of the other if using just one compressor you'll be OK.

Great, well all is connected and working fine.

I have adjusted the smaller mattei to charge upto 10bar in cut in when pressure drops to 7 bar and the Hydrovane will go to 11bar and cut in at around 8 bar. All tanks can handle 11 bar.
This way the mattei is not being used unless the pressure really drops and then both will kick in. Easier on my electrics.

I have fitted an auto drain on the big tank, I take it as the 2 compressors will also be filling up would it be worth fitting auto drains on those 2 as well?

I do a lot of paint spraying and don't want to be draining the tanks every day cos I am a lazy git and I will forget

I should have mentioned about setting the switching pressures slightly apart.

I've removed the drain plugs from my tanks and replaced then with hose unions with a short length of flexible air hose leading to a lever operated ball valve at a convenient height so I don't have to grovel around on the floor to drain the tanks.

I would put auto-drains on the tanks, water will collect at the lowest points of any system.

it will be more than likely a 3/4 bsp . a tapping drill for one is 24,5mm
