ADF response time?

I am in the market for a budget auto darkening helmet, and have done a fair bit of reading on the subject this forum, however I am still slightly confused as to how fast a response time a helmet needs to have so that no arc flash is visible.

Is 1/10,000th of a second (0.0001) fast enough?

1/10,000 is ok, 0.1ms. That is the same time for a camera flash. (camers ia 0.05-1ms)

1/25,000 is preferred.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Do you see the arc with a 1/10,000th response time?

Also I sometimes find myself led underneath a vehicle looking up at what I am welding, do any of the budget helmets allow for a glass anti spatter screen to be fitted?

Arc flash will not harm your eyes through the lens even in it's light state so I wouldn't get too hung up on response times. You will only get an arc flash if you are caught with nothing in front of your eye so even a set of safety glasses will give you UV protection.

I think you right wyn,I'm not saying that there aren't any, But Ive never seen a auto lid suitable for OV.

It would be nice not to get flashed, especially when ding lots of short splats.

Is this because of the shells? or the ADF screens?

I was hoping that a glass anti spatter screen would protect the ADf Screen, just not sure if you can fit one over any of the budget masks.

Anti splatter screens

Hi,
Most masks have the ability to fit these at the front and at the rear. Some are plastic screens (on the cheaper masks) some are glass.
