Adhesive for spot welding

I have recently read an article that said,modern cars are now assembled with a epoxy adhesive between the panels and then spot welded.I can think of a few benefits of this for classic restoration too,like no water getting between new panels,and increased joint strength.Just wondering if anyone has used some and knows the names of the products?

Forget welding just use 3M VHB tapes!

I used to use 3m scotchweld for assembling aluminium sheet items, stuck well, good clamping and fit was quite important though.
Its a 2 part adhesive, with mixer nozzle.

Could you use the strong Velcro to hold things together. I once saw some furniture held together with it

Lots of auto panels are just held in place with Fusor adhesieves, The don't come off easily !!! 3M makes a similair product

I use a heat cured epoxy for aluminium but its not cheap at £104 a tube

Was at a 3M demonstration day a couple of weeks ago and saw the VHB tape, there was a small square of it sandwiched between that foil (that you can't tear) and it was impossible to tear the VHB tape apart! The rep then said that a 3" strip of the tape (correctly applied) would take a load of 3 tonnes to pull it apart. I see on their product guide that it is used to bond the sides on to articulated trailers.

We use(( TIGER SEAL )) like silicon from most replacement pannel shops if you spread on both parts clamp to geather for 8 hours you will not be able to pull it apart once gone off its like glue sticks like s#it and can be painted over,, when we weld any patches on sills or under floor we always paint over joints with this then underseal/stone chip on top,,
