Advice for painting 2 or more colours

I have some bike panels that are mainly black with some decent sized red sections and looking for some advice on the best way to tackle it, ie which colour to do first? can i use the same colour primer for each colour, when to remove masking tape etc

Im using base and clearcoat by the way

id do the red first , mask it off then black , remove the tape and clear the whole panel

yes use one colour primer ..black will cover easy anyway

with respect Steve. Everyone does it differently. Personally i would say black is a perfect ground coat for red to hold out. Base coat the entire panel in black, mask with fine line, whisk the red on and bury in clear.

and dont forget to use fine line tape not standard masking tape or you will have a great big edge between colours

Outnumbered by respected pro,s. I'm old skool and maybe out of touch with the strength of modern pigments. When I was full time, I would never have shot red over anything but black as it took so many coats to hold out, even with 2k solid base coats. Go with the solidly.

As for the fineline tape, when is it best to remove it? when its touch dry or longer?

you can pull the fine line as soon as its started to dry
