Advice needed on set-up?

Could someone advise me on the following?

I have recently purchased some new paint guns (not top of the range stuff) but want to use the little mini regulator in conjunction with mini water trap that is to be attached to gun.

Should the mini water trap be attached to end of hose and mini regulator to the gun to get accurate pressures at gun OR is it better to swap these round?
If I swap these round (trap at gun) then connect the mini reg to trap - will i get an accurate pressure (ie not taking trap into consideration)?

I've got the trap directly on the gun. As for pressure, as long as the gauge roughly reads right so you dont make it go pop, all the fine tuning should be on the gun itself

There is no real point in having a pressure gauge on your gun at all. All you need to do is mix some paint to data sheet specs, then adjust the line pressure on regulator/watertrap (mounted on or near compressor), till you are getting good atomisation and spray pattern.

Every time you do any spraying with the same paint, use the same pressure and you wont go far wrong. However many beginners make the mistake of getting hold of spray guns with the wrong set ups for the materials they are spraying, which makes good results almost impossible in some cases.

I suppose logic says trap first, then filter, but on most guns I have a mini filter only. One gun has a mini-reg on it, I like that for pearls & candies etc.
btw the mini filter is like a 'bonus' filter, still want a normal reg/trap in the line.

I have a system gauge on the receiver & reg/filter of this spec attached to compressor:

My thoughts are to achieve good consistent(recommended) pressure at the gun with attached mini filter. The pressure at the main filter/reg would read as air pressure at main filter/reg. But the pressure will drop as it travels along the hose length to the gun. If I knew what the recommended gun pressures were for these celly paints (i understand somewhere between 35 - 45 PSI), then I can be more confident of consistant pressures at the gun by checking first with mini regulator between gun and hose.
I just wondered if the pressure would drop much going through the mini filter, hence my original question on set up.
Of course I may be being a little OTT here??

Pressure drop is minimal I reckon through those filters, a hose causes a little, depends on length of course. tbh I'm not sure the small filters do much, mine never have anything to drain, although I use them in case water gets past the first trap, but they're a cheap extra insurance.

With the pressures, the gun (and type) will give an idea. From there it's a case of try it and see, test panels and scrap etc. Too much pressure and it can get orange peely, to little and it won't atomise and lay down smooth.
