Advice on compressor size pls

Hi
I'm in need of a new compressor.. My old one SGS
( motor burnt out) was 2.5 Hp but using a single air drill or sander the compressor just couldn't keep up with the tool.. I would have to wait for it to catch up all the time which is very frustrating..

Can you please advise what would suffice .. I'm not sure if I need more ltrs or more hp?

It's only for my home workshop but I just don't wasn't to get a new one and be stuck with the same problem..

More hp = more air, more litres will lengthen the run/wait times.

What sort of mains supply do you have?

24 Litre Air Compressor - 9.6CFM, 2.5HP, 24L With a 240volt supply..

What current is your supply rated at?

If you're in a shed at the bottom of the garden with a simple 13A socket you're going to have trouble running a compressor above 2hp, if on the other hand you have 3 phase at 32 amps you could run almost anyhting.

Yes I'm at the bottom of garden with h hold supply..

I think you will find most 3hp single phase compressors with a single twin cylinder pump, will be running a fair amount of the time if you are using something like an air orbital for anything other than intermittent use. Even more so for something like a blast cabinet. Bigger tank means the pump doesnt come on as soon as smaller capacity, and bigger is probably better idea if you have the space. Something like a 3hp, 10CFM+FAD, with 200L tank will easily keep up with an air drill though, and will be fine with an orbital if you are not running 10-15 minutes at a time on regular basis. The only real way round this on single phase is twin pump/motor compressor, which are pretty costly and take up a fair amount of space. I found it a lot less hassle to get a 240v orbital, and get someone else to do blast cleaning work. When looking at compressors look at FAD (free air delivery) rather than CFM, which is simply worked out from displacement, and not all that helpful.

I'm using an orbital sander and an air drill plus mini paint sprayer.. Obviously I have power points in my workshop with a trip in there too.. The power source being my house is approx 20 Mtrs away..
