Afternoon Newbie Norfolk

Afternoon all

Just thought I would say hello I have browsed the site for a long time and always found really useful information on here but finally took the plunge and bought myself my first welder.

Went for the Clarke 160tm model which should be turning up shortly.

I will be mainly welding 3mm ish mild steel so going to have to get some practice in once i sort out getting a gas bottle and other materials.

I work in the engineering trade but welding is one part of sheet metal I have yet to try so am looking forward to it.

Sure I will be back to bug people for help soon and learn some more.

Hi Stuvy thanks for the welcome, well I work in sheet metalwork for my career but my hours have dropped so gives me time to work on side projects.

I like to make motorbike parts sometimes I do some cad and laser cutting along with bending but always been missing the option of welding and just custom metalwork parts I make or try to make many random things

Generally around the 2-6mm area normally 2mm is my favourite to work with.

Powder coating equipment was coming first but bumped the welding in instead

Welcome aboard, the Clarke is an ideal weapon to start on. Mine lasted ix years but did have a hard life.
Right choice I reckon going for welding over powder coating. With a welder you can make anything. Also side projects can easily become a bit of an earner over time.

Many thanks really looking forward to learning some new skills, I'm like a sponge I love to absorb and learn just finding people willing to help with that and this site seems a great place full of people who have alot of useful knowledge so glad I come across it.

powder coating is really expensive compared to welding cheap kits off ebay are naff
(I used to work in a powder coat shop so have a good grasp of what it should look like)

Any pics of the bits you make?

Yeah I think for now I will get powder coating done locally not lived here long though so need to build up a list of some reliable places to use and buy from etc.

You would laugh at the gimmick things I make nothing special compared to what I have seen done by other members.lol

Handy little key-ring sized knuckle-dusters, quite cute!
No laughing matter!
Strangely, the other item is vaguely reminiscent of some kind of throwing-star.
Must be tough for the kids growing up in Norfolk, these days!

Lol they are just practise doodles with cad software.

The last item is a Metallica band logo.

It uploaded the same pic twice there was a batman metal logo as well.

Nothing special, I'm yet to learn any great skills with metal but now I have the space with a Little workshop I can get started and hopefully have something better to show in the future.
