air angle grinders

but i want 1 that has the lowest air consumption as i can reasonably get

does anyone use 1 of them on a small tank compressor and how long will it run continus before the compressor runs out of puff??

Best of luck with that, it will probably cost you more than the compressor. Rotary air tools like grinders are very greedy. I'll say what I always say, it's cheaper, quieter and more comfortable to use a 600watt electric than an air grinder with a compressor powering it and a pipe connected via a PCL coupling. Not what you wanted but to be fair you could buy one that claims to run on 4cfm at 90psi and be disappointed because it will only run for 2 minutes before the compressor is trying to keep up. I used to use a little die grinder on a 3hp 50ltr and gave up as it was like just turning the tap on and emptying the tank.

i want a small air grinder to take with me on the tractor so as to be able(if needed) to sharpen some blades out in the field
as long as the grinder would run for 20 or so seconds it would have 30-40 seconds to replenish as im replacing a blade and removing another

You'll get less than a minute out of it before the thing starts to slow down. OK if you just have lots of little tiny jobs to do, useless if you plan anything more.

Always remember that tool manufacturers quote air consumption at working pressure, while compressor manufacturers quote output as 'free air displacement,' two entirely different things. How does the 'gas law' equation go? Is it P1*V1=P2*V2= a constant. Volume can be any unit you like, pressure must be absolute....

It really depends on how powerful the compressor is on your tractor.

If I had to guess I'd say that tool might be a bit gutless, I'd want serious air available. I would be looking at battery powered angle grinders but that's not the cheapest option.

I even have one of those small air grinders you can have for postage if you want to try that route, picked up secondhand and shelved cause 1) the discs weren't 115mm and 2) I lost the two pin key to hold the spindle nut and couldn't be arsed making another!

Waste of time unless you have unlimited amounts of air. I've just weighed in a CP 7" air grinder as you needed a road compressor to run the damn thing.

What are you sharpening? I've just acquired a 2kw PC backup battery inverter, very heavy with the batteries in it, but they were toast anyway. Couple of leads to the battery in the van, and I have 240v supplying 2kw.

i had a 4inch cp air grinder given it ran for a minute and petered out with a 14cfm comp .it ended up in the bin
