Air brush kits

I keep finding myself wanting a small amount of spray paint in numerous colours, so i am thinking of an airbrush.

Do the cheapy ones from ebay and such actually spray?

The pots, i dont want the trouble of cleaning pots out every time, just put in the paint i want, and put a lid on it. Can i get pots with lids seperate that fit them?

what kind of paint? Hitch, as it can get as complecated as full size spraying...

the cheapest 'airbrush' sets are usually a very simple external mix type, easy to use and clean up. Badger / clarke usually under a tenner. but the air can's don't last too long and can give odd air pressure.

Clarke do a copy of an older Badger design dual action airbrush, which is under priced IMHO, so very good value if you need the extra fine control.
glass pots with screw lids are used buy most to store/use paint (get a few spare seals)

Hobby world had a good selection of airbrush bits and bobs last time I was there, worth a look if you have one localish, if not try modelmakers supply's on t'web.

i have the badger airbrush not bad but be prepared for plenty of masking if you want to keep the paint on a specific area. I'd recommend a dual action pen type airbrush with cup on top if you want a narrow spray eg iwata brand. i use one for touching up scratches etc. beware though buy cheap and you'll end up with more paint one your hand than anywhere else.

Paint type thats a good question, mostly acrylics i guess.

Ask someone who paints helmets or bike tanks, it's their everyday tool.

You can get small screw-top bottles but I use a small anodised ally bowl, and a teaspoon... as only tiny bits are needed it's minimal faff. Something like a small Nutella glass jar is good too.
You'll need to strip the brush after every session, esp with solvent-based paints. Dead quick & easy though.

I've got an Iwata HP-BCS, it's the dogs and has more talent that I do. Good thing is it takes cups in 2 sizes, and bigger glass siphon bottles.

has the compressor your going to use got a low enought air feed for something that small!

i painted this model base coats with acrylics then shades with humbrol enamels and then brought up edges with oils, ehem, anyway acrylics are nice to spray as long as your fast as they set quickly, i mix them with a solution i make up, which is the little small bottle of car windscreen wash (50ml is it) mixed with 5L of tap water, much much cheaper than off the shelf acrylic solutions. i think comp will have to have some sort of moisture filter fitted. Do Not put cellulose thinners near your airbrush like i did unless its stripped down and all non stainless parts removed!
