air compressor drain valve

I was given an old airmaster compressor by my father in law a few years ago, that i tucked away in a corner of my basement because i didn't know how to use one, or have any tools for one.
So this week i decided that it was about time that i learnt how to use one.
I did a bit of reading and thought that i should check for water in the tank, pulled the drain valve and it just came apart so if anybody help me to identify what i need to buy i would be most grateful.

To be honest I'd fit a remote ball valve or an automatic drain valve to save grovelling about underneath when you want to drain the tank.

I have this setup:

90deg bend > hose tail > length of hose > hose tail > ball valve > hose tail > hose to a container to catch the condensate.

Sounds like a good plan, Any idea on what thread it could be as I know nothing about pipe work. the bung in the tank looks about 16mm or 5/8" and the piece that screws into the bung is tapered

This should help you identify the thread in the tank, 99.99% sure it'll be BSP
