Air compressor has become really noisy will an oil change help?

As per the thread title my air compressor has become really noisy, I'ts never been particularly quiet but the noise was within an acceptable limit but the last few times I've used it it has become really loud. I plan on putting it on some rubber feet and maybe building an enclosure for it but just wondered as to why it has developed this issue, It builds up and holds pressure the same as it always has. Would an oil change help or are there any other things I should check in the interim? hope you can help

Have you checked the oil level recently? One of mine got very noisy when it ran out of oil!

yes the oil level is spot on I always check it in the sight glass prior to use, I'm just wondering if its because it's not had much use lately? I'll change out the oil and see if that improves matters.

check the mounting bolts for tightness also the pipe from off the head to the check valve,check it is not blocked, they can carbon up restricting the flow so it ends up creating much higher pressure on top of the pistons.

check the oil for sparkels

Check the inlet filter, that's one of the things that makes my compressor very noisy if it's block, makes it work extra hard

Hi many thanks to all who have replied I've managed to sort it out, it turned out to be a worn bearing in the drive motor which had dried out and had quite a bit of play in it. I've replaced that and it's a lot quieter now.

Bearing Boys are an excellent source for replacement bearings.
