air compressor intake silencer

Hi guys.
One of my compressors is rather a large lump. Making quite reasonable cfm. 21

Well for all that air coming out. It obviously has to come in.

Its a belt drive compressor so that helps.
It has a metal box with a paper filter inside it.

I dont realy want to slow down the air in speed with a long run to the outsid of my workshop in order to take the noise outside.

So I guess I am looking at adding a silence to the air intake side.

Questions. Silencer first before the filter or after ????
Silencer more one the lines of a 4 stroke exhaust or a can as on a 2 stroke.

Lastly. Will my efforts make much of a difference to merrit the work.

A guy I know used a car silencer in front of the filter. Worked OK.

it will be worth fixing a silencer on the intake to reduce noise as long as u dont restrict the air flow .put it between the filter and the pump

What type silancer should I use.
Can type as in a two stroke or exhaust type like a 4 stroke

go down an exhaust center and root through the scrap pile there will be a decent one in there just get a shortish 4 stroke one

I have two compressors in the garage and Mr T.Watt from next door was moaning that he could hear them while he was watching telly, so I took the little air filters off and made up a couple of adapters and fitted that air filter off a Volvo on one and a filter off a Corsa on the other way quieter now.
