Air fed mask

Since moving to my home workshop and not having 3ph supply I am relying on two 3horse compressors for my supply which is struggling to keep up with top gun and air fed on more than a single panel. I was wondering, is it feasible that a modern mask might use less air than my old 80s one? I seem to remember from memory that I needed 21 cfm for the old mask and gun which wasn't an issue with the 3ph unit.

My Sperian 2 takes 260l/m or so at 5bar minimum pressure, I have actually put a small regulator on the output and control my breathing so as not to take sharp intakes of breath.

The new DeVilbiss PROV-600 is designed for low air use - 4.5 to 5.7 cfm

I run my devillbiss mask off a Wolf 14cfm 90 litre and it's fine, don't seem to use much air at all

Mine seems to use loads of air because the belt fed filter has a vent on it that whistles when the supply pressure gets low. Bloody thing...

block it off u soon know when theres not enough air in an airfed helmet .it gets hot and u start gasping for air and u run outside

I use a trend airshield when I'm doing dusty stuff like sanding but don't use a respirator when welding. The airshield is ancient and could do with some new batteries. I was thinking I could just about justify the cost of a decent airfed system if it could replace all my face mask needs, grinding, sanding, welding and spraying.
