Air-fed masks: general info

I've been thinking for a while of going airfed, but I'm a bit confused about the filtering required, and costs. Got the funds for a comp and s/h mask, but not sure about the filtering costs.
A compressor just for airfed would live in a separate building, but only a few feet away from the spraying garage.

What sort of filtering should I be looking for, between comp and mask? or does that normally come with a mask?

Is there any need to filter the intake air for the comp? I could box it and filter it's air supply. May do that anyway for noise as much as anything else.

I have a 5micron filter followed by a coalescing filter then a carbon filter, I suppose you can manage without the carbon one as there is one on the mask, but I was very surprised at the amount of water/oil that the three separate out as I have a 25 micron just before the three that I have got clamped together and there isn't much water collected in that one. My inlet to the compressors is piped in from well away from the garage just to make doubly sure I don't get any nasties in it.

That's interesting, cheers eil. I'd seen some filter packs and nearly fell off my chair at the price. Looks a bit more affordable now. The masks seem a hell of a lot of money for what they are... unless I'm missing something.

Well to be frank, yes the prices are high, but then again, what price is your health. Chipper, I have a simple view, full protection and nothing less. that is if you intend to spray 2k paints.

You can buy the activated filter separately from the kestrel set, how good they are I don't know. mine are Parker ones.

they said they wanted £90+vat for the carbon filter section on it's own
