Air Filter/Regulator

Hi guys, fairly new to all this so any advice greatly appreciated. Have just taken delivery of my new 100lt Sip Airmate TN 3.0 Compressor from Tools Today UK, I already have an older 50 Lt. 2.5 hp compressor and may hook them both up eventually. Will be using them for plasma cutting and possibly some painting jobs and general air tool usage around the shop.

My main query is the usage of an air filter/regulator. I was looking at this dual filter from Sealey and just wondering about the second pot containing the lubricator. What exactly does it do in the process, is it a second stage filter or what? Would this set up do for spraying a car for instance with this dual filter. I have attached a screen shot of the filter on their web site.

Advice needed before I buy.

don't bother getting one with an oiler there a waste of time just get a filter regulator . any air tools just 3 drops of oil in tool before use

It's ok if you need a tools lubricated but it's usually easier to add a few drops of oil to the tool inlet before use. Definetley not any good for paint spraying

It introduces oil into the airstream, which is great for tools but the last thing you want for painting. Also the airline and other pipework will get contaminated with oil, so you two separate airlines, one for tools, the other for painting &c.

As said, just put few drops of light oil in the tool before use and after every tea break.

Thanks guys, great info there. Like I said was never much into air tools etc before or spray painting so all new to me but I'm a fast learner. Just ordering the single stage Sealey regulator now so should be good to go in a few days. Thanks again.

When you come to connect it up, try to install the regulator near to where you're working, rather than close to the tank. This means most of the air will be at tank pressure, so you'll lower losses in the pipework.

Keep your eyes open for the Lidl/Aldi air units, At around half the Seeley price, They are the same combined unit but easy to remove the oiler and just use the filter.

I had a Aldi filter set - one of the polycarbonate bowls cracked. I haven't had much luck with Clarke regulators either, whereas the Parker one I bought 10 years ago is still going strong.
